Getting ready for an emergency

Before a storm, flood, bushfire, influenza pandemic, cyclone or earthquake there are some simple steps you can take to minimise the risk to you and your family

Be prepared before the emergency hits:

  • Prepare if you have to remain at home for up to two weeks with limited food, water and essential supplies
  • Prepare an emergency kit in the event you have to evacuate
  • Trim tree branches and clean gutters and garden rubbish
  • Clean your property of loose material that could cause damage or injury
  • Listen to local news and get up to date information
  • Familiarise your family with your emergency plan
  • List your emergency contacts

Most households only purchase groceries on a weekly basis, and may also do additional top up shops during the week.

What would you do if an emergency incident prevented you from access to shops & confined you to home for two weeks?
